Escape to a luxurious riverfront camping experience under the stars. Our tent stays are the perfect fit for those looking for a bit of solitude whilst traveling the iconic Route 16 and Northern Circle Routes as well as those looking for a reliable, secluded base to explore all that the Smithers area has to offer.
Set on a beautiful 10 acres, our Aspen Riverfront Bell Tent provides an authentic Canadian camping experience without sacrificing comfort. Fall asleep to sound of the river and wake up to the sound of the birds! In the morning enjoy a hot coffee on the deck, before wandering down to Pat’s Pool for epic steelhead and salmon fishing! Cool off in our refreshing glacial fed water, and then spend the rest of the day relaxing in a hammock by the river, playing our lawn games, or exploring one of our many local trails.
In the evening you can unwind by the fire with a glass of wine before you sink into your bed with down comforter and wood stove, to keep you warm and cozy on cold nights. Whether you’re looking for a tranquil retreat, fishing from your front door, or access to stunning backcountry, hiking and mountain biking, we are the ideal base for a secluded wilderness getaway.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
The tents are off grid and while wifi is available there is no electricity or running water so it’s the perfect opportunity to unplug and truly enjoy a rustic, unique and grounding experience. We provide jugs of water in the tent and at the kitchen. A load of firewood will be left by your tent with more available at the woodshed. Lamps and flashlights are also provided but we recommend having your own headlamps for the short walk to the bathroom in the evening. While our well-loved resident swallows keep the mosquitos at bay, we are out in the bush and so bug spray is prudent! We have two friendly dogs that will undoubtedly come and visit, please do not feed them or allow them into the tents (I know they’re cute but please resist!). ***Please note that outdoor showers are currently under construction. You will be able to shower in the house in the meantime. In addition to this there is a riverfront composting toilet with a view!
COOKING FACILITIES: are an up-cycled rustic pallet kitchen with gas two burner camp stoves, mini fridge, and basic kitchen supplies including oil, salt and pepper, sugar, tea, and coffee. Make sure to check out the garden and pick some fresh herbs in the summer! We provide biodegradable, eco-friendly and refillable cleaning products which help to protect our environment and river. Please only use the provided supplies.
HOUSE RULES:
WILDLIFE FRIENDLY CAMP: While wildlife visits are rare, we minimize smells around the tents for the safety of all guests and wildlife. No cooking in the tents please. Please make anything but tea and coffee at the outdoor kitchen. Please also store any food, toiletries, or perfumed items in the car at night and when away from your tent.
NO PUPS OR SHOES IN THE TENT: We work hard to provide a clean and comfortable stay, please don’t allow any of your furry friends inside the tent and remove shoes prior to entering. There is a mat provided inside the tent where they can be stored.
DOG POLICY: Please note that dogs are allowed on the property but not inside your tent. If they are comfortable sleeping in the car or outside they are more than welcome. We can also set up a crate in one of our outbuildings if they are more comfortable there. Open fires are subject to local fire bans.
**Please note that during peak season you are likely to encounter other guests in the shared outdoor areas on the property. We have 10 acres so there is still plenty of space to have all to yourself.
Guests have access to the riverfront trail to Pat's Pool, the garden, lawn games area off the house, and all the local trails. Please note that the trail on which the tent is located leads to our neighbours' property. Please respect their privacy and go no further than the allocated marker.
Showers are available in the house on request.
Please feel free to self check-in but if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach us on the app or come knock on our door. We're happy to help with anything you need or questions you may have. If not at the house you may find Alecia in the garden or Archie in his shop at the top of the drive.
We are 25 minutes away from the artistic mountain town of Smithers, 10 minutes from the Telkwa - Bulkley River confluence and 2 minutes from Telkwa River FSR with access to stunning backcountry and fishing. MUST LOVE DOGS! We have two very friendly dogs who have free range of the property and while not allowed in the tent they will undoubtedly say hi. If you're not comfortable with our furry friends we fully understand but this may not be the best stay for you. Alecia is an avid gardener and you’re welcome to wander around the garden and greenhouse to see what’s growing! There may also be fresh produce to purchase, inquire with your hosts if interested.

Directions to us at 12800 Denis Road.
We are a 10 minute drive from the village of Telkwa. Turn onto Hankin Ave off the Yellowhead Highway through Telkwa. Follow this road round and cross the bridge. Follow this road (Telkwa Coalmine Road) for 6km.
You will be at a fork in the road. Take the right hand fork onto Aveling Coalmine Road. Follow this for approx 2.5km until you reach Denis Road on your right.
Take Denis Road and drive right to the bottom of it. Watch out for our neighbours dogs - they are big and friendly but might jump up on your car if you stop for them.
You will see our Telkwa River Lodge sign on your right. Take this right and follow the road down past the two buildings at the top of the road and continue to the right of the lodge. Follow the signage for 'Tents'. As you round the corner you will see two parking spots to your left, just after the boiler house. Your tent, Aspen, is the further of the two tents (you will pass Willow on your walk). If bringing multiple vehicles, please park the 2nd one in front of the house. We have two tents and there is just one parking spot per tent. Walk the trail round and make yourself at home. You will pass the Pat's Pool Trailhead on your walk round. The cooking area is on the far side of your tent.
Please drive slowly for our dogs who will also want to come and say hi!
